Mahjong Story Work Thread, 2024-12-29 - 2024-12-29 14:23
Things have been a bit up and down emotionally for me, though overall, I’ve had some good moments during the HOLIDAYS. Either way, I feel like I need to throw writer brain a bone and let her write about some furry bullshit that does not have to be massaged into interactive fiction, so I’m thinking of tackling a story about my fursonas hosting a mahjong night… with transformative results. (You can probably assume most of my stories have such results…)
I am starting with outlining, which includes some space to write notes on characters. Though I’ve spent so long writing little shit posts about Chimmy and Ada, I think all I need for them in my notes is “Dork. Leopard.” and “Nerd. Rat.”. And I’m right to do so.
Anyway, I’ve wanted to try my hand at writing such a story after reading through Akagi earlier this year, which was highly enjoyable even if I did have some frustration with how ponderously the plot moved at times. Of course, as I have mentioned before, I was really interested in writing a mahjong story way back when I first read the mahjong manga parody that is part of Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga because it was just so silly.
I think it’s also an interesting challenge because I don’t want it to be a story that is only accessible to mahjong players, so I have to figure out how to clearly describe the potentially complicated scenarios my characters are sweating over.
But let’s get on it.
